Blog 2.4- Listening and Learning

I have been having a great time this week going to the classes and reading up on the medical sciences. I can't believe how much I am learning, but if it is something you really enjoy you are more likely to learn more than something you don't enjoy. Even though its been busy for me, I am glad I am able to find enough time to work on my project.

One thing I learned is that when you are a nurse, you need to chart every detail about everything you do with a patient in order to prevent any lawsuits. This is not only to protect  yourself, but to also protect coworkers and the hospital.

I have also learned about how drugs work in you nervous system. This is very interesting for me especially since I am learning about the nervous system in A&P. Its great to see how these classes are overlapping and it is really beneficial. I am really excited about how much I am learning and I am very excited for the future!

  1. Amy, I'm glad you are enjoying your project so much. From listening to you talk, I can tell you are soaking up a ton of knowledge from the college class. Do you have to do a lot of extra reading to keep up or can you follow along pretty easily?

Blog 2.0- Second Time Around!

Welcome back to my blog! This time around I decided to do something related to my future career, so I decided to learn some nursing skills and gain some medical terminology. Some of the skills I will be learning will include simple patient care, giving injections, starting an IV, and possibly delivering a baby. This will be done by using the medical simulations at Miles Community College. I will be learning the medical terminology by using books from the college and online resources. I will also be sitting in some of the college classes, so I hope to be able to learn more by being there. My Shark Tank Pitch was kind of frustrating for me, because I was in a car headed back home from Denver and I had to make a slideshow on my phone. It wasn't too bad until I realized that the service in Wyoming was a little off and on for about two hours. Finally I was able to have enough service to finish my slideshow, I just couldn't add any pictures. When I got home that night I added ...

Week 3- Progress is Being Made!

First of all, I want to tell you all how thankful I am that we had a four day weekend!  Thanks to this amazing, long weekend I was finally able to go out and take more pictures and videos.  I spent a couple of days getting the shots that I wanted, and I think they turned out pretty great! Since the weather was beautiful, I was able to take some nice landscape pictures and videos. One thing I learned this week, was that the sun makes a big difference when you take a picture.  If you look at an object with a camera with the sun behind it, the object will appear very dark and unrecognizable.  I was able to take pictures at different angles and avoid this problem, but if need be, I can take the pictures at a different time of the day. Moving objects are also hard to capture.  We moved cows this weekend, so I brought along my camera and tried to take some pictures of our cows and calves.  I had some luck, but I wish I was able to take some better pictures ...

Week 2- Experiments and Learning

This week I was able to start the process of taking pictures and videos for my documentary. I went out with my dad to check some cows so I took some pictures along the way. It was freezing cold and raining, and after about an hour of taking pictures my hands were frozen. Despite the awful weather, I was still able to take some great photos and a few videos. While I am not a photographer by any means, I was able to capture some great landscape pictures and some pictures of old buildings on the ranch. I was able to see how much I improved within the couple hours I took pictures and learned more about how to use the camera. However, with it being as cold and rainy as it was, I could not get some of the landscape pictures I wanted, and plan to take more on a clearer day, hopefully one where the sun shines a little bit more.  One thing I have learned this week, however, is that taking videos that look good is very hard to do. I took about three videos, mostly of landscape, and ...
